Solidworks Competes With Mr Tara

Solidworks Corporation, an enormous division of the world’s second-largest CAD corporation, is setting up to compete against small, independent CAD newsman, Roopinder Tara of Tenlinks.com. Last month, Mr Tara set up innovate3d.com, where he humbly offers to convert your 2D drawings into 3D models for a flat rate of US$49 each.

Now the highly-profitable software behemoth is launching Gasabo 3D Design in Rwanda, mimicking Mr Tara’s India-based efforts: using low-cost overseas labor to laboriously convert smudgy 2D drawings into gleaming 3D models for pale North Americans too lazy to draw them in 3D in the first place.

SolidWorks hasn’t set pricing, and the effort doesn’t launch until later this year. Can we expect to see boxing-style Mr Tara vs SolidWorks advertising posters?
